...Yet He Opened Not His Mouth
In Isaiah 53:7 we read a prophecy of Jesus.
“He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.”
We can see this prophecy being fulfilled:
In the Garden of Gethsemane, After praying and receiving strength He said, Matthew 26:46 – “Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
Before Caiaphas the High Priest, False witnesses had come forward against Jesus, but He kept silent. Matthew 26:62-63
Before Pontius Pilate, After being spat on, blindfolded and beaten, the next morning He went before Pilate, but did not answer His accusers. Matthew 27:11-14
Before Herod, Luke 23:9-11 - Herod “questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing.”
Jesus made no defense. He gave himself just as He said He would in John 10:17-18 – “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.”
Matthew 20:28 – “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Galatians 1:4 – “Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father”
1 Timothy 2:5-6 – “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all,”
Titus 2:14 – “who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”
Jesus was indeed the fulfillment of Isaiah 53:7. He gave Himself as a ransom for us, redeeming us and delivering us.
