As He Said

Joseph of Arimathea, a rich man who had become a disciple of Jesus, came and asked for the body of Jesus. Mark 15 records that Pilate wanted to make sure Jesus was dead. So before He turned the body over he summoned the centurion. Then Joseph and Nicodemus buried Jesus in the new tomb, which Joseph had hewn out of rock.

The chief priests and Pharisees had not forgotten the predictions of Christ. He predicted many times He would rise on the third day (Matt. 16:21; 17:23). In order to prevent the body from being stolen, a Roman guard was placed at the tomb. A Roman guard unit consisted of 16 men working in rotating shifts. Pilate told them to "make it as secure as you know how." It would be impossible for anyone to tamper with the body.

When the women came to visit the tomb, the angel told them "He is not here; for He is risen, as He said". Jesus had predicted His resurrection on many occasions and the angel here says He rose just like He said He would. The seal on the stone was broken, the stone was moved away from the opening, the guard had fled and the grave clothes were found neatly folded inside the tomb.

Acts 1:3 "He presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days." Jesus presented Himself alive to the disciples and gave them a chance to converse with Him face to face and touch Him.

Peter then preached in Acts 2 of being a witness to the resurrection.

"Him (Jesus), being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it."

He died, was buried, and rose again just like He said He would.

Hebrews 2:9  "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone."
