What Do You Really Want From Me?
Introduction:
It is natural for us to have questions about important spiritual matters. In this series we have attempted to address several questions that people frequently raise. In the process of dealing with these subjects, we have emphasized that some questions can not be answered because God has not revealed the information. However, we have great comfort in the knowledge that all essential information is available. The source of this information is the Bible. In it, and it alone, we find the truths that lead to salvation (Acts 20:32; James 1:21,25; Revelation 22:18,19).
The question for this study tonight is: God, what do You really want from me?
I) There are two opposite views on this subject:
| One view says that specific deeds do not matter, so long as one's
heart is sincere. This view is incorrect as seen by: 1) Historical examples - such as Uzzah and the Ark of the Covenant (2 Sam. 6:3-7) 2) The plain statements of Jesus (Matt. 7:21-23) B) The other view, while seldom spoken, is demonstrated by those who concentrate exclusively on outward deeds and rule keeping." We know this view is incorrect because of Jesus' strong condemnation of some who followed it: 1) Matthew 15:7,8 2) Matthew 23:23 |
| A) Deuteronomy 10:12,13 B) Ecclesiastes 12:13 |
| A) Salvation from sin: requires a sincere heart
+ acts of obedience 1) Luke 18:18-23 2) Romans 6:3,17 B) Acceptable worship: requires a reverent spirit + deeds in harmony with truth 1) Colossians 3:17 2) John 4:24 |
