Trusting in the God Who Is, Who Did and Who Will

God gave Moses some big marching orders. This 80 year-old man was to lead his people out of a hostile country and bring them to a land "flowing with milk and honey." How would Moses be able to accomplish such a feat?

Exodus 6:2-8 says, "And God spoke to Moses and said to him: "I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name LORD I was not known to them. I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers. And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. Therefore say to the children of Israel: 'I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the LORD.'"

God told his servant three things that we ought to remember when we think impossible task lie before us.

First, I AM (Exodus 6:2). We learned in our last study that "I AM" refers to God's infinitely unlimited nature-power, majesty, presence, etc. When God said, "I am the Lord," He was turning Moses' attention from his own limited nature to God's unlimited nature. When we work for God, He still brings this same unlimited nature to the table for us.

Second I DID (Exodus 6:3-5). God reminded Moses of all He had done in the past. It is important for us to remember what God has done through His word and even in our lives today, because we often develop a sort of "tunnel vision" in times of difficulty-we only see what is in front of us. We see the hindrances. God wants us to remember His presence and His past dealings with those He loves; and then to draw comfort from that. Finally, I WILL (Exodus 6:6-8). The Greatest Force in the universe was declaring to Moses, "These things WILL BE DONE!" How was such a feat certain? "I am the LORD" (v. 8). When God wants us to walk down a certain road or engage in a certain task, our power comes not from ourselves but from our God. If it is His will, He will see it through.

I AM, I WILL and I DID. God still gives us comfort today with these three phrases.
